While you are sitting, you should also do some quick and straightforward stretches to cut down on stiffness in your neck and shoulders.

Try never to sit for more than 45 minutes before you get up and walk around. While walking is one of the greatest things for your health, sitting too long is one of the worse.

Don’t sit on the couch, watch tv and rearrange your furniture As stated above, never sit for more than 45 minutes at a time. Get up and walk during commercials.

Here’s what I did a couple of years ago. After a major surgery, I could walk but I couldn’t go outside for a month. (If  that doesn’t stress you out, nothing will) I love to walk, so I mapped out a course in my apartment that was 125 steps. Once every hour I would get up and walk this course 5 times. It wasn’t a lot, but it added 4,000 steps to my daily step goal.

After a month the physical therapist came to my apartment and put me through a few exercises so she could evaluate my recovery progress. To make a long story short, she said that I was doing great and.would not need physical therapy or rehab. I attribute my success to my indoor walking course.

The lesson from this story! No matter what your situation, you can always find a way to exercise.

Of all the different exercises that you can do to help you eliminate the stress in your life, walking is by far the best. You can quickly lose yourself and your troubles by walking.  Just walking around the block,  can do wonders for your health as well as stress.

Just set your step goal for each day, 10,000 is the recommended number. With the heart rate monitor, you can get an idea of your heart rate at different walking speeds.

If you don’t like to run, but can jump rope, you will burn the same amount of calories doing the latter.

If you have a lot of stress in your life, you may want to consider a gym.  Working out than sitting in the sauna is also an excellent way to relieve tension.  If your gym has a pool, you may find swimming to be very beneficial as well, as it helps you to relax.

If you work out in the gym every day and use the same piece of equipment or use the same routine at home, why not try something different, try mixing things up a little. Change the order of your exercises, or reverse your routine.

Many city parks have adult exercise areas. These parks have circuit courses set up with a planned route where all you have to do is jog or walk to each station and follow the instructions for that particular exercise.

Do push-ups and pull-ups, hang from your knees, just let your imagination guide you.

You don’t have to follow a strict routine, just get out there and have fun and work your muscles.

If there isn’t a designed course, then you should do a combination of jogging and walk, picking a distance of a couple of hundred feet.  Jog 100 feet then drop and do a couple of pushups, walk the next 100 feet and then do sit-ups.

Try biking around your neighborhood or hike on a hiking trail.
